Apparently now a snowshoe destination...

Apparently Suncrest, on top of being a destination for inversion aversion, has become a somewhat found out place for snowshoeing. Took the kiddo's out for a little jaunt this afternoon, sled's in tow - and ran across 30-40 others over the course of our little 2 hour excursion, not counting the 6 dogs - it was nuts. There were 3 cars here when we started, it resembled parking at one of the old WNBA Starzz games (not that I would know) when we got back.
Snowshoeing is great, if for nothing more than the fact that we (Annie and I) can get buy in from the entire gang - no whiners when an outing on the snowfloaters is proposed.
The two year old graduated from a backpack to his own set of snowshoes this year - he's been out 3 times now and cruises.
Annie just claimed to be faster on Snowshoes than Chesney... The tikes were calculated in their sharing of the sweet goodness that is a thermos full of hot chocolate on a snow outing - no fights, but no passing of the cup by my own free will and choice either...
The kids hiked up, but turned into mushers on the way back, piling on the sleds being pulled by Mom and Dad, and yelling at us to pull faster between giggles, all the way back to the car... not a bad way to start the year.

Nate - perfect day to get the kiddies out - that Deer Ridge route is a good one for the kids to hike on, snow's packed down from all the traffic.

Dug - no Soobies, they must have all been up the big canyons with you backcountry dudes?

Looks like fun. I usually go alone, but my kids always ask to go. I figured they were too small, but from your post obviously not. Where did you get the small shoes what type of sled are you pulling? Also are you just pulling it with a rope around your waist? I know dumb questions, but I have to ask them.

Brandon - MSR makes a little kid snowshoe that works great, you can pick them up an REI. We also have a kid pair made by Yukon Charlie that work just fine too. Poles help a lot, plus they feel cool with them.

The sleds are cheap plastic ones, most likely a Walmart vintage but not positive - pulled by hand. Getting the kids to pile on the sleds for a portion of the hike is the only chance at any fitness benefit - it's slow going when they're walking, but high quality time with them.
