Cervelo Soloist

Here's the transformation of the Cervelo from road bike to time trial bike - minus the clip on bars and aero wheels.

Seriously, how great is that for the guy who will probably only do a few TT's a year, which doesn't come close to justifying the purchase of a thouroughbred TT bike. An extra seat post and seat and it's a 30 second job to go from a road set up to a set up that's supposed to facilitate me contorting my body into an Aero tuck. Heck you don't even really need the extra seatpost and seat, but I'd recommend it. It's a heck of a bike if you need one that can wear a couple of hats - road, triathlon, TT, and it's probably one of the least expensive bikes in the herd of Suncrest guys I ride with. I like it a lot.

Gearing up gear

One of several new cycling related purchases arrived on the doorstep today - check it out.


Took forever (talking hours) to get all the software updates, etc.. but once it was working, I hooked this Tacx Fortius up on the projector and gave it the first test run tonight. Few kinks to work out, but it's going to be a welcome upgrade to the braindeadness I've gotten from pedaling the spinbike.

It tracks heart rate, cadence, power, speed, miles, etc.... all the stuff that's fun to download off your Garmin after a real ride. I'm an admitted gear junkie, and this one's kind of a crossbreed between a nice piece of training gear and a Wii for grown ups. They've got these "real life videos" that go with it, haven't tried those yet, but picked up a TDF stage, some Mtb course, and the Ironhorse Classic race so looking forward to giving them a run. I plan on getting the conmen over one night for some power testing and then see what kind of progress we can make between now and that damn race they suckered me into.

Top kids gift: MSR Denali Tykers snowshoes

Not sure that they trump the doll house or the Baby Alive's (No, I didn't cave and buy the version that poops), but we took them for a test spin tonight and they're fantastic. We've tried a few other sets of Jr. snowshoes and these are hands down the favorites. Good float on the snow, light, and the #1 problem you experience when taking kids under 5 years old snowshoeing, stepping on their own feet/shoes, was almost eliminated completely. The poles are new this year and also a big help for the rats of the rug. Kiddie gear is a must in Suncrest - otherwise they'd spend 4 months of the year pent up in the house due to the snow. They like getting outside, regardless of the temp. or depth of snow. The only thing that bothers them is the wind when it's stinging their faces with the snow. MSR Denali Tykers - Highly recommended.

She cruised in them... 4 yrs old and happy as a clam to be out in deep snow, mid teen temps, hiking the ridge behind the house.

Big sister - Kylie - did a heck of a job breaking trail.

Brock won't graduate to snowshoes until next year - but he's content being carried by his hot momma.

Stripping the kids out of their gear before letting them back in the house after the 1/10th of a mile excursion. Won't be too many more storms before we have to dig a cave exit out of the basement.
